Who Can Use
Interlibrary Loan?
All current Sage
students, faculty, staff and administrators have ILL privileges. ILL
privileges are also given to retired Sage faculty, staff and
administrators. We do not charge for ILL services.
How does one
make an Interlibrary Loan Request?
Sage Colleges
Libraries use ILLiad Client in order to facilitate Interlibrary Loan. In
order to make a request;
a patron needs to create an ILLiad account by completing the first time registration
form (http://illiad.sage.edu/illiad/firsttime.html).
All requests must be made through the
ILLiad request management system. The department will not accept
any request by phone or e-mail.
Please note: During the academic year, only 3 requests will be processed
in a day per user. Please submit the highest priority request first and
please do not submit more than 6 requests per day. This will assist us
in making the borrowing process more efficient.
IMPORTANT: The person who is checking the material out must make the request on
ILLiad and whoever checks out the material is responsible for the
material and payment to the lending library if material is lost. We
strongly advise against anyone making requests or checking out material
for another person.
What if I
forget my password?
In the event you
forget your password, please contact the Interlibrary Loan Borrowing
Department at (518) 292-1742. We can then reset your password allowing
you access to ILLiad. Please change your password once you logon to
ILLiad.
What
materials are available for borrowing?
Patrons may
request material that is not owned by the Sage Colleges Libraries or
material that is checked out by another user. Before making a request,
please verify through the Sage Online Catalog and the Online Journal
Locator that the libraries do not own the material. The most requested
material is journal articles and books but other material is available
for borrowing. DVDs, VHS tapes and computer software can be requested
but these materials are difficult to borrow.
The Sage
Colleges Libraries subscribe to the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses
database and many dissertations from various disciplines are available.
If a dissertation is not available through this database, we will try to
borrow it; however, most schools do not loan dissertations. We will
not borrow dissertations for undergraduate students
How long does
it take to get material and how long can one keep it?
Journal articles
arrive 1 to 3 days after a request is processed and books usually arrive
a week after a request is processed. Journal articles are delivered
electronically and a patron can access them through their ILLiad
account. They will be available for 30 days after the article is
received, but after this period, they will be deleted. The loaning
period for books is determined by the loaning institution. Most will
have a lending period of 21 to 30 days.
The loaning
institution also determines whether or not a book may be renewed. Books
typically will be renewed for two weeks; however, the loaning
institution reserves the right to recall the book and the patron is
responsible for returning the material as soon as possible. A patron
may NOT keep material for the length of the semester since no lending
institution will lend material that long. Class materials needed for
the whole semester should not be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan.
A patron may
submit a renewal request to the Sage Colleges Libraries Borrowing
Department via phone or e-mail. Requests may also be submitted using
ILLiad Client; however, renewals must be submitted at least four days
before the due date if using ILLiad Client. Renewal requests must be
submitted directly to the Interlibrary Loan Borrowing Department Library
Specialist. Requests submitted through the Circulation Department
will not be processed.
Any lending
conditions set by the loaning institution must be obeyed. The Sage
Colleges Libraries borrowing department cannot override the loaning
institution’s restrictions.
Where do I
pick up materials?
Patrons will
receive e-mail notifications when material is available for pick-up or
when material is delivered electronically. In order to view journal
articles, log onto ILLiad and select “Retrieve My Articles.” Other ILL
materials are available for pick-up at the circulation desk of the
library the patron chose as their “site” when registering. A patron may
switch their “site” by logging onto ILLiad and updating their user
information by selecting “Change User Information.” We ask that patrons
review this information periodically and update when necessary.
Overdue
Materials
Please return
your ILL materials by the date listed on the blue book band. Please
do not remove this band as it has information that identifies
the material. It is important that materials are returned on time in
order to maintain positive relationships with lending institutions. Late
materials may impact future borrowing, which will affect future
borrowers. Please review the overdue policy for further information.
As a courtesy,
we send overdue notices to borrowers through e-mail. However, if overdue
notices are not received, the patron’s responsibility for paying
replacement costs and fees is not absolved. By signing the check out
slip, the patron assumes full responsibility for the material and agrees
to abide by all borrowing policies set by the ILL Borrowing Department.
Overdue
Policy
The borrowed
item must be returned to the library on or before the due date listed on
the book band. If allowed by the lending institution, a renewal request
may be submitted at least 4 days before the due date by phone or
through a user’s ILLiad account.
Overdue e-mail
notices will be sent 24 hours after the due date has passed. If a
borrowed item is overdue 30 days, it will result in a user being blocked
in ILLiad. The user will also be responsible for paying the replacement
cost of the borrowed item and a non-refundable $35.00 processing fee.
All ILLiad users, including Students, Faculty and Staff will have
borrowing privileges suspended until full payment is made on any
outstanding overdue ILL invoices.
