Search for an Item Using the Z39.50 Protocol

You can search Z39.50 sites from Knowledge Portal.

1. Click Z39.50 Sites.
2. Click on one of the remote library choices.
3. If available, select Search or Browse.
4. Type the search term or terms, as follows.
   
   • Author
   • Title
   • Series (if available)
   • General (if available)
   • Call number (if available)
   • Subject
   • Everything (if available)
5. If available, select Boolean operators to use between fields or with a single field. Use Searching Tips to help with Boolean operators.
6. If available, select Yes or No in the If Search Returns No Hits Display Browse box.
7. If available, sort the hit list records by a value in the Sort box.
8. Click Search to search the remote library or Reset to start over. Some systems may require that you begin the search by clicking a button that identifies the search term type instead of a Search button (such as Author, Title, or Subject).
