Customized
Bibliographic Instruction Sessions
Any faculty member whose
course assignments require the use of library resources, or whose
students may be unfamiliar with the academic research process, is
encouraged to schedule a library instruction session. A librarian will
work with you to define your class’s research needs and develop a
library instruction module tailored specifically for your course.
Library instruction sessions typically encompass an entire class period
(or more than one class period) and can be offered in the library, in a
computer lab (if available), or in your own classroom.
You may schedule
library instruction sessions for your class any time during the
semester. Please note that library instruction sessions are most
effective when they coincide with a research assignment so that students
perceive a real need for the information.
Class material may
consist of one or more of the following topics:
-
Identification
of scholarly resources
-
Searching for
books and materials in the online catalog (including interlibrary
loan)
-
Using library
research databases (this can be subject-specific)
-
Using
reference sources
-
Avoiding
plagiarism
-
Evaluating
sources
-
Searching
for and evaluating web resources
