Ebook Services
The Sage Colleges Library provides access to two academic e-book services: EBSCOhost ebooks and Ebook Central. E-books from these services can be viewed online, and some are available to download to your portable device for offline reading.

You may use one or both of these services to access e-books; however, in order to download e-books for offline use, both services require you to create an account with them.  In addition, you must have an Adobe ID to view downloaded e-books from either service.

PLEASE NOTE: Kindle e-ink devices (e.g. regular Kindle, Paperwhite, Voyage) cannot be used to download or view full e-books from EBSCO or Ebook Central. You may download a limited number of pages from a given e-book to a Mac or Windows PC as a PDF, then transfer it to your Kindle e-ink device. Instructions here.

For all other devices, follow the steps below to get e-books on your device.
Step 1:
Get an Adobe ID

1. Go to the Adobe Sign In  page and select “Get an Adobe ID” 
2. Fill in all the fields. (Uncheck the box if you wish to opt-out of email advertisements). 
3. S
elect "Sign Up"  Remember your username and password.
Step 2:
Ebook Central does not require you to create an account with them in order to download eBooks. NOTE you may stil have to create and Adobe Account to read books in the Adoble Digital Reader.

EBSCOhost does require you to create an account to download for offline reading, you must create an account with them.  To create one, go to  EBSCOhost ebooks Remember your username and password.

 
Step 3:
Select the device you will use to download your e-books

From the list below, select the device you will be using:

Getting e-books on Kindle e-ink devices
Full e-books from EBSCO and Ebook Central cannot be dowloaded, transferred or viewed on Kindle e-ink devices (Kindle, Paperwhite, Voyage). However, you can download single chapters or page ranges to your computer, then transfer them to your device. Follow the steps below to do so: 
 
  1. From your Mac or Windows computer, create an account with EBSCOhost ebooks or Ebook Central and sign in.
  2. Search or browse for the e-book you want, then select the link to dowload a chapter or page range.
  3. Follow the prompts to create a PDF of the pages you wish to download.
  4. Save the PDF to a convenient location on your computer, and plug your Kindle into your computer.
  5. Open the location of your PDF, and open your Kindle's Documents folder using your computer's file browser.
  6. Drag and drop the PDF file into the Kindle Documents folder.
  7. Eject your Kindle from your computer. You may now read the PDF on your Kindle.

Download e-books onto your Kindle Fire
I.  Install the Bluefire Reader app on your Kindle Fire:
  1.  At the top of the Kindle Fire menu, select the Gear (settings) icon and then tap on the “More” icon
  2. Tap on “Device”, then choose “ON” for “Allow Installation of Applications”
  3. Open your Kindle Fire’s browser and type in the following URL:  http://tinyurl.com/kindlebluefire
  4. Tap on the link to download the Bluefire Reader APK.
  5. When download completes, open the notification bar on your Kindle Fire. Tap the .apk file and then tap “Install
  6. Open Bluefire Reader, and enter your Adobe ID and password.

II.  Download an e-book to your Kindle Fire:
  1. From your device's web browser, go to the EBSCOhost ebooks  or the Ebook Central  main site, either by selecting one of the links above, or by navigating to the Library website, library.sage.edu, then selecting the "Databases" tab, then "E", then select either "Ebook Central" or "EBSCOhost Ebook Collection".
  2. After signing in, browse or search for the book you wish to download, and tap the book's title.
  3. Select the download option, then follow the prompts to begin the download.
  4. The download may take a minute or two to complete.  When the book is finished downloading, Bluefire Reader should open automatically.
You may now read your e-book offline. The checkout period is typically 14 days.  You may return the book early if you are finished with it before then.
Download e-books onto your iPad

I. Install the Bluefire Reader app to your iPad:

  1. Open the App Store, search for "Bluefire Reader" and install the app.
  2. Open Bluefire Reader, and enter your Adobe ID and password.

II.  Download e-books to your iPad:
  1. From your device's web browser, go to the EBSCOhost ebooks  or the Ebook Central  main site, either by selecting one of the links above, or by navigating to the Library website, library.sage.edu, then selecting the "Databases" tab, then "E", then select either "Ebook Central" or "EBSCOhost Ebook Collection".
  2. After signing in, browse or search for the book you wish to download, and tap the book's title.
  3. Select the option to download, then follow the  prompts to begin the download.
  4. The download may take a minute or two to complete.  When the book is finished downloading, Bluefire Reader should open automatically.
You may now read your e-book offline. The checkout period is typically 14 days.  You may return the book early if you are finished with it before then.
Download e-books onto your Android tablet
I.  Install the Bluefire Reader app on your tablet (Free download):
  1. Make sure that the installation of apps is enabled on your device
  2. Open the Google Play store, search for "Bluefire Reader" and install the app
  3. Open Bluefire Reader. If you do not get an automatic prompt, tap the "info" tab, and enter your Adobe ID and password.

II.  Download an e-book to your tablet
  1. From your device's web browser, go to the EBSCOhost ebooks  or the Ebook Central  main site, either by selecting one of the links above, or by navigating to the Library website, library.sage.edu, then select the "Databases" tab, then "E", then select either "Ebook Central" or "EBSCOhost Ebook Collection".
  2. After signing in, browse or search for the book you wish to download, and tap the book's title.
  3. Select the option to download, then follow the prompts to begin the download.
  4. The download may take a minute or two to complete.  When the book is finished downloading, Bluefire Reader should open automatically.
You may now read your e-book offline. The checkout period is typically 14 days.  You may return the book early if you are finished with it before then.
Download e-books to your Mac or Windows PC
To view e-books on your Mac or Windows PC, you will need Adobe Digital Editions on your computer, and you will need to authorize it with your Adobe ID.

Please note: Adobe Digital Editions is free to download. The program should already be downloaded on Library computers.

I.  Install Adobe Digital Editions:
  1. Go to http:www.adobe.com/products/digital-editions.html
  2. Click on “Download” in the gray menu bar
  3. Under the heading  "Adobe Digital Editions X.X Installers", click either "Mac" or "Windows"
  4. Follow the normal procedures for installing a new program on your computer.
  5. Once installed, open Adobe Digital Editions and click "Help", then "Authorize Computer..."   
  6. Enter your Adobe username and password to authorize your copy of Adobe Digital Editions.

II.  Download an e-book to your PC:
  1. Go to either the EBSCOhost ebooks  or Ebook Central  main page and sign in.
  2. Search or browse for the book you wish to download, and click on the book's title  
  3. Click the "full download" or "download (offline)" link, and follow the prompts
  4. Click the e-book's filename in your browser's notification area. The file will be opened with Adobe Digital Editions by default.  

You may now read your e-book offline.

Transfer e-books from a PC to your Nook eReader
Download e-books to your Nook
For newer-model Nook tablets with the Google Play Store app (Nook 7, Nook by Samsung), use the directions for Android Tablets.

For older tablets without Google Play, use the insructions below:

To get EBSCO or Ebook Central books on your Nook e-reader (Nook, Nook Color), you must first download your e-book to a 
Mac or Windows PC.  Once you have done this, select the link to return to this section, and follow the instructions below:

  1. Plug your Nook e-reader into your computer via USB and turn it on
  2. Open Adobe Digital Editions on your PC
  3. Click and drag the book(s) you wish to transfer onto the name of your Nook device in the left hand menu, under "Devices".
  4. When the transfer is finished, eject your nook from your PC.

You may now read your e-book offline on your Nook e-reader.
